Building the Future We Dream of
Our name Principia Techne, is not just awesome, it also holds our moral compass, our commitment and a tribute to one of the most beautiful scientific works ever written.
Principia: first principles, foundations, the conviction and deep understanding that any complex problem can be deconstructed to its fundamental truths and rebuilt with solid, unshakeable bedrock. And a nod to Newton's Principia Mathematica. The book(s) where the laws that govern the cosmos were first written in the language of clarity.
Techne: art, craft, skill, the wisdom of hands that do. The love of making, the passion that puts soul into matter. Science and technology as craftsmanship, practiced as an act of care.
Together, they mean that we start from the essential and build with the heart of an artisan.
The Noise We Were Born Into
A time of noise is upon us. A time where money has been placed above life itself, and with that, greed and envy are the daily bread. Some of the largest technological forces on the planet have chosen to poison our ecosystems, surveil our lives, exclude the vulnerable and condemn the future generations. All in the name of profit.
Too many things are made fast, broken by design, stripped of quality because the only sacred metric is speed to market. Too many decisions are ruled by the question Is it profitable? rather than Is it good? or Is it true? or Is it fair?
We have seen the bright promise of science and technology twisted and corrupted into forces that deepen inequalities. We are seeing the planet's fever rise while production engines roar without conscience.
We cannot be numb to this. We strongly reject the idea that this is the only way.
A Counterweight
We are here to act as a counterweight.
We act with quiet, strong determination of those who know that another path exists. We believe that science and technology must serve all of humanity and not just a handful. They should close gaps, not widen them.
Making things well is a form of respect. For the end user, for the maker, and for the planet.
Missions
For these very reasons we call our projects missions, not products.
Because a mission is something you pour your soul into. It's our craft, our commitment, our integrity. We build with the patience of an artisan and the precision of a laboratory, because the problems we face deserve nothing less.
Our Purpose
We have two main pillars as the foundation of everything we do.
1. To Heal Our Home
Earth is our only home. It is the house we have inherited and the one we must protect with every tool we have to offer. We use our knowledge and skills to give a voice to ecosystems we have silenced, to restore balance and build a world that is not only sustainable but just.
2. To Reach the Stars
However, our home, like all homes, will not last forever. If we want to survive as a species, we must look outward. Space exploration is the highest expression of our longing to know ourselves, to solve the mysteries that have always defined us, and to secure a future beyond the beautiful but fragile blue cradle that holds everything we love.
Let us protect Earth with the same minds and hands that will one day plant life beyond it. Let us learn the laws of the universe and heed the mistakes of our past, to care more wisely here and everywhere we go.
Plastic Sentinel
Our first mission, Plastic Sentinel, is the living proof of what this company is about.
It fuses the distant vision of the Copernicus constellation with the distributed intelligence of IoT, robotics, machine learning and autonomous navigation to detect, characterize, and raise the alarm on plastic aggregations in our oceans.
It's an early warning system that declares "we can use space technology to restore transparency to the seas."
It is data in the service of life.
An Invitation
We are starting our incubation at ESA BIC Barcelona and will forever be grateful to ESA and Catalonia for placing their trust on this team. We belong to a movement where we refuse to accept that the future must be ugly, unequal, and exhausted. Where we still dare to craft things with love, to think in principles over profits, and to build technology that feels like an embrace rather than a threat.
We do not claim to have all the answers. But we do have the conviction that a better world can be crafted with care and shared with courage.
Principia Techne welcomes you, whoever you are, whether you are a scientist, dreamer, artisan or a citizen of a planet that deserves better, to join us and stay in touch.
We are stubborn in hope. We remember how beautiful it feels to build something that truly matters.
From our small corner of the world, under the watchful eye of the universe, we begin. You are welcome to pull up a chair.
Warm regards, William
